Stephan Hachinger
Science and Co-Design Coordinator at Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) of the BAdW

Dr. Stephan Hachinger leads the Research Data Management (RDM/FDM) Team at Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ of the BAdW – Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities). He holds a Ph.D. degree in astrophysics (2011, MPA / TU Munich), where he worked on radiative-transfer simulations and supernova data. In 2014, he joined BADW-LRZ for IT-Infrastructure projects, with a first focus on the platform AlpEnDAC for alpine research data and on contributions to FP7/H2020 EU projects. Within the LEXIS project (H2020 GA #825532, www.lexis-project.eu), he has been responsible for the “Distributed Data Infrastructure”, based on EUDAT-B2SAFE. As a central component of the LEXIS Platform, this “DDI” enables European Distributed Data Management within fully-automated workflows. Currently, S. Hachinger is extending this line of work as “Science and Co-Design Coordinator” of the EXA4MIND EU project (HE GA #101092944, exa4mind.eu), facilitating Extreme Data analytics with optimised data backends and AI. S. Hachinger aims at combining supercomputing and automation aspects with a strong focus on FAIR RDM and appropriate metadata. With his team, he participates in Research Data Alliance (RDA and RDA-DE) and in the German National Research Data Infrastructure framework (NFDI). Within the InHPC-DE collaboration, the team and collaborators construct a RDM solution for TB-to-PB-scale datasets generated at the German top-level supercomputing centres.
