Demetres Armanes is currently managing the ABS Engines and Controls Technology Center in Copenhagen, Denmark. He holds a Ph.D. in Intelligent Control and a B.Eng. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering both from The University of Liverpool. He worked as a Chartered Engineer, designing, testing, producing and commisioning Marine Computer Based Systems for several years in UK, Greece and Cyprus, prior joining ABS in 2010 as a Regional Account Manager for the ABS Wavesigh fleet management software, responsible for customers’ success in more than fourty shipping companies in Europe, Midle East and Affrica (EMEA). In 2014, he was transfered to ABS Corporate Technology in Houston, Texas, leading ABS research on Model Based Electric and Hybrid-Electric Propulsion Systems Verification, co-simulation and models exchange, Marine Automation Testing and Performance Monitoring Data Acquisition quality assurance. In his current role, Demetres is leading an international, multi-disciplinary team of research engineers, focusing on supporting the industy with the necessary Energy Transition for a sustainable future. Concurently, he is involved in various EU Funded projects and he is the Head of Delegation for Greece at ISO TC8/SC6 – Navigation and ship operations and ISO TC8/SC26 – Smart Shipping
