The maritime sector is moving towards extended data-driven operations with the use of digital twins for vessels and ports. The digital twin applications are often associated with AI tools that would create strong needs for robust data management and interoperable platforms, and clear rules and regulations for AI and data compliance.

In this workshop, ABS, Wartsila, and Kongsberg will show selected examples of maritime digital twins, including asset monitoring, simulation-based testing, and performance optimization for decarbonization in the shipping industry. That will also focus on how to manage data along its full lifecycle, from ship sensors and simulations to cloud platforms and decision support.

SINTEF and UiT will bring research and innovation perspectives from projects such as TwinShip and related maritime digitalisation and green shipping initiatives. They will show how open, modular digital twin frameworks and advanced analytics in open-source digital platforms can support zero-emission goals and futuristic vessel concepts in shipping.

The session will connect these industrial and research practices with BDVA priorities on sustainable data and AI, trustworthy and human-centric AI, and integrated data and AI infrastructures. We will discuss how maritime data platforms can link to emerging European data spaces and AI factories, and how standards and governance can support interoperability and auditability across value chains.
