Turning Data Spaces into Business Value: Are our customers lost in Space?
Format: 60-minute interactive session with opening framing the discussion with two project overviews, four pilot use case pitches, and a moderated audience Q&A. Discussion will focus on viable business models, adoption incentives, and the economic and sustainability value created by cross-domain data sharing.
Context and objective
The agrifood sector is undergoing a profound transformation driven by data, AI, IoT, Earth Observation, and digital platforms. At the same time, achieving sustainability and resilience objectives under the European Green Deal requires better integration of environmental and agricultural data, supported by robust governance frameworks, compliance and economically sustainable digital solutions,
Data spaces are a key part of the solution. However, while technological capabilities are advancing rapidly, a major challenge remains: How to translate these innovations into viable business models and real market uptake, particularly for SMEs?
This interactive session brings together the perspectives of the agricultural data space (CEADS) and the Green Deal data space (SAGE) to address a central question: where are the users of data spaces and how do we create real market uptake across domains?
Focus of the discussion
The panel will explore how interoperable data spaces and trusted data-sharing frameworks can move beyond pilots towards operational deployment and sustainable business value, with focus on:
- How combining agricultural and environmental data enables new value propositions (e.g. sustainability reporting, carbon farming, compliance, decision support)
- How data-driven solutions create economic, environmental, and social value across the value chain
- New business models enabled by data sharing, AI-based decision support, and platform ecosystems
- The role of European data spaces and trusted intermediaries in scaling and attracting users
- Which incentives and conditions are needed to drive adoption and market uptake
- Lessons learned from ongoing deployments and MVP implementations in both CEADS and SAGE
| Methane emissions intelligence
|
SAGE / Alessia Matruglio | Uses Earth Observation and data-space services to support detection and monitoring of methane emissions, notably from the oil and gas industry. | Verifiable emissions evidence for ESG reporting, compliance, risk management and sustainability claims. |
| Forestry Inventories | SAGE / Thorsten Reitz, wetransform | Enables sovereign sharing of forest inventory data among public authorities, research institutes and private actors, with AI-ready data for forestry decisions. | Better forest planning, climate-resilience decisions, biodiversity monitoring and new geospatial analytics services. |
| CEADS use case | CEADS / Dolores Ordoñez | Integrates agriculture, energy, mobility and tourism datasets into a unified agrotourism model linking eco-mobility, renewable energy and short food chains. | Diversified rural income, green-tourism business models and stronger links between farms, tourists and local services. |
| CEADS stakeholder manager | Rani Van Gompel | Represent use cases from a client perspective in the panel |
