Energy Data Spaces & AI Trends and Challenges
Today, the energy sector is experiencing a fundamental transformation on a worldwide basis, driven by the urgent imperatives of decarbonization, decentralization, and digitalization. Such a transition drastically affects the accuracy of physical models traditionally utilized for monitoring and planning the operation of energy systems, as well as the “end-to-end” coordination between the energy sector stakeholders (and beyond, reaching to the building and mobility sectors), that need to take the leap forward from conducting pure business transactions to sharing data in a timely and trusted manner. In the wake of the unprecedented power outage in Spain and Portugal in late April 2025, the criticality of bolstering the resilience of the energy system while leveraging novel data-driven technologies has also become more apparent and relevant than ever.
In this context, with the Common Data Spaces gaining momentum and the increasing pervasiveness of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within any sector, this session aims at providing insights into the opportunities and the added value that Energy Data Spaces & Energy Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions have the credentials to generate, from a technical and a business perspective. In particular, the focus of the session will be on:
- Identifying the experiences and challenges of Energy Data Spaces with regard to technology development and large-scale demonstrations across Europe.
- Gaining insights into cutting-edge AI solutions for the relevant energy data value chain stakeholders, while exploring how science-based first-principles models and physics-based constraints can be efficiently integrated into AI models, for more accurate, efficient, and trustworthy outcomes.
- Discussing the lessons learnt related to the data spaces, especially in the energy sector, from different, related projects while discovering the latest trends shaping their future.
Agenda:
- Brief Introduction by the session moderator: Fenareti Lampathaki (Suite5)
- Perspectives from ongoing EC-funded “Energy Data Space” (HORIZON-CL5-2021-D3-01-01) projects:
- Perspectives from other ongoing Data-IoT/Al Energy projects:
- Discussion Panel
